Can’t wait for the flowers to start blooming? Take matters into your own hands, and stitch up your own floral display on your front screen door! Of course this can be done on any screen, and it may actually be easier to handle a window screen that pops out.
I sketched out some blossoms and a branch with some chalk, then started stitching over the design with pink, brown and white embroidery thread, using back-stitches, and making sure to keep both side looking neat.
I have done this type of work before, and if you are a beginner embroiderer, you may find it a little more challenging to keep your stitches neat, especially since they will be seen from both sides. It’s always a good idea to practice on a test window screen before moving onto a more permanent installation. I’ve often found window screens on the side of the road on garbage day, or even in certain thrift shops that carry things like toilet and doors.
Heather shares her story about creating this cherry blossom design over on the Soul Flower Blog.
