Just like knitting by hand, stop motion animation production is a slow and methodical process, and writer and director Sarah Simi has combined them both in this impressive “Keep Britain Tidy” PSA by Nudinits.

In addition to this short PSA, Simi has produced a 22-minute episode of Nudinits entirely knit by hand, but there’s a naughty twist to the wooly world that Simi creates, because everyone in it is naked (Warning: link content may be NSFW or inappropriate for some younger viewers).

Having learnt to knit from a young age her initial idea of an all knitted world came easily but at that point the characters were fully clothed. She explains: ‘I happened to read an article about free hiking – hiking in the nude – and the image of a man rambling in the countryside on a freezing cold day, naked but for a pair of walking boots and binoculars rather stayed with me. It seemed to encapsulate British eccentricity at its best and so the characters ditched their clothes.’

Besides the irony of a knitted world where nobody has anything to wear, these animations are an amazing feat of patience and crafting. So the next time you finish a knitted projects of your own, you might consider bringing it to life with a little movie magic!
