Updated animated optical illusion tutorial

Craft & Design

If last weeks’ post on animated optical illusions left you scratching your head in confusion, then you might want to check out the scanimation-style tutorial by Paul of dude craft. He noticed some flaws in the previous tutorial, and took it upon himself to correct them.

Shouldn’t the spacing of the bars be 1/32″ clear and 5/32″ black, so you have 6 segments total, 1 clear and 5 black that way the pattern repeats every 3/16″, so as you move the screen you see each frame 1 by 1 with the rest hidden:

    (0=clear and #=black)

    Frame 123456

    1. Paul Overton says:

Yes, Stephen is right. If you do it six times the width, you need a seventh frame of animation. If you do six frames, it should be 5 times the width. How I screwed that up is a mystery. My apologies

Checking the stats, scores of people downloaded the Blender file I linked to in the comments of the original post. Did anyone make anything cool with it? Any questions?

Thank you Paul for sharing this with us. Generosity is a great gift. Let me ask you if you know if there is any source of information about the history of this easy but wonderful technique. Thank you again.
