Living in NYC, I’ve witnessed my share of yarn bombing. I’ve seen fiber-covered bikes, bridges, parking meters, and even the Wall Street bull. Even so, I think this yarn bombed DC-3 airplane from Yarn Bomb Yukon just might win the prize for the most unexpected target I’ve seen yet. Check out this video from photographer Tyler Kuhn to see the construction process!

Yarn Bomb Yukon Collective is going to yarn bomb the DC-3 plane owned by the Yukon Transportation Museum. This interactive art project is created in partnership with the Yukon Transportation Museum and the Yukon Arts Centre Public Art Gallery. The idea for the project came from Casey McLaughlin, Director and Curator for the Yukon Transportation Museum and the project was taken on by the Yarn Bomb Yukon Collective.
The purpose of this interactive public art project is to transform a historic aircraft into a large scale public art project, to foster an appreciation for fibre arts, and to teach the lifelong skill knitting and crocheting techniques to adults and children. Once the project is complete, blankets will be donated to local charities and shelters.

Head to Yarn Bomb Yukon’s site to learn more about the DC-3 project.

Pretty impressive, no?
