The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and spring is in the air. It’s the perfect time to pick two of your favorite fabrics, and get to sewing what will be your absolute favorite skirt of the season: the reversible wrap skirt. Straight from the super talented Andrea DeHart (craftybitch.com), this project from CRAFT Volume 06 is awesome because it’s for everyone. There’s an easy basic pattern with an adorable scoop patch pocket and bold ribbon waistband. And for the pros, there’s an advanced version with buttons and elastic, piping, and hip slit pockets. Here’s a closeup of the easy version:

Another great thing about this project is that you get to learn skills that you can apply to other garments that you sew. You’ll learn how to add piping, how to add hip slit pockets, how to sew on a patch pocket, and how to add an adjustable waistband. In her intro, Andrea writes about the popularity of the wrap skirt: “It gave women all the style and comfort of an A-line skirt, with the added ability to expand and contract to fit our ever-changing waistlines.” I hear that sistah!
Here’s the reversible wrap skirt project in our Digital Edition so you can get started. And be sure to pick up a copy of CRAFT Volume 06 in the Maker Shed before they’re gone forever. Besides the skirt, you’ll learn how to make plush monsters, a camp lamp chandelier, hyperbolic baby pants, a teddy bear remote control, tie-dyes, solar jewelry, a tablecloth skirt, fig wine, and more than we have room to name here!
