I had a chance to meet some of the members of the Mosaic team at Maker Faire Bay Area and check out the Mosaic Palette.
The Palette can take up to four different colors of filament and combine them to allow them to be printed on a single extruder 3D printer. While the system right now is primarily being used with PLA and PLA-based filaments, the team hopes to expand into using a wider range of filaments in the future. Hopefully, we will see multi-material prints become possible as the Palette is further developed.
When I first learned of the Palette, and later saw the initial Kickstarter launch, I was concerned about how well the color transitions would work and how the system would handle color bleeding (switch from a red filament to a white and you get a lot of pink), but I was very pleased to see great looking prints coming off the Palette at Maker Faire.
The Kickstarter campaign has now closed, but you can head on over to the Mosaic page and pre-order a unit now.
