That’s not the name of a new tomato sauce. SketchUp is the MS Word-like editor of the 3D world. Modeling a fully customized lamp without special skills, in less than 5 minutes ? This is possible, thanks to SketchUp.
Denis and is team from Adebeo, demonstrated how they do it on the SketchUp Heroes stage at Maker Faire Paris.
With only few clicks, the contours of the lamp is designed in the 3D modelling software. One more click and the contours become a curved surface. A couple options checked later and the shape created is repeated and rounded, showing a unique and original lamp. Then, all that is left is to export the work to .stl format (the format for 3D printing) and warm up the printer!
SketchUp offers more many and varied functionalities to play with. What Denis and his team shown was even better, from SketchUp they took control of the LED bulb in the 3D printed lamp, changing color in the 3D model changed the color of the 3D printed lamp. That was crazy.
The public viewing the SketchUp Heroes stage was astonished by the show.
SketchUp is a free software, as well as most of the plugs in created by the SketchUp community, that also makes the software improve over time.
