A Star Wars fan recently was recently surprised when a group of Imperial Clone Troopers showed up at a local theater to present him with a unique prosthetic. Liam Porter was born without the lower part of his left arm and has had to use costly prosthesis, which need to be readjusted as he grows older. A family friend of Porter took notice of those issues and went about designing a new prosthetic for Liam using 3D printing technology.
With help from E-Nable (volunteers who design prosthesis for users that can’t afford them), John Peterson designed the new arm that resembles a Clone Troopers armor. One of the great aspects about the appendage is that it can be easily adjusted as Liam continues to grow, meaning he won’t have to replace the arm as often as he would with a normal prosthetic.
The arm is rotatable and features a clamp-like hand to grasp objects, which he was able to do immediately after putting on his new appendage. Liam was presented the new arm and Clone Trooper helmet at a local movie theater from members of the 501st Legion — a group of cosplayers that wear highly detailed replica costumes from the Star Wars movies. While he didn’t have much to say when he received the new gifts, the look on his face spoke volumes.
