MAKE is participating in DIY Chicago, a show taking place at The A+D Gallery in Chicago. The show’s organizers say: Humans are enterprising beings and the impulse to go it alone, to re-interpret, and to play with, the practical instruction sets of others seems to have been deeply imprinted upon us. Do-It-Yourself has been an essential part of everyday life, in every culture, with unclear beginnings, but varied and specific motivations. This exhibition will focus on the different aspects inherent in most successful DIY projects be they of historical, political, or artistic importance. We will examine the remarkable breadth of DIY in today’s culture and cover such diverse areas of activity as self-publishing, personal journalism, podcasting, amateur science, architecture and independent filmmaking. The show includes work from MAKE authors and illustrators, as well as other DIY superstars, from Lisa Anne Auerbach to users of Instructables.
The show ends soon (April 14), so if you’re in the area, be sure to check it out soon! More photos available – here
