We know they’re now made of aluminum, but these food cans were assembled into a formidable roller-coaster at May’s Canstruction Madison competition.
Canstruction is a nonprofit organization that encourages artist and engineers to submit creations made entirely of cans. They have competitions the world over. After the events are finished, the pieces are dismantled and all the canned food is given to charity.
The Roller CANster was designed and built by the “Thinking Outside of the Can” team. According to team members, “a metal hook attached to a bike chain pulls the can up the hill, and a sprocket near the bottom of the hill is powered by a DC motor.” Gravity does the rest, and their efforts garnered them a People’s Choice Award.
