MAKE pal, muse, and contributing editor Mr. Jalopy has an awesome-looking variety store in LA called Coco’s. The store has a blog.

Coco’s Variety sells flyswatters, glass 5 gallon water bottles, headache remedies, oil cloth by the yard, used bicycles, California souvenir tablecloths, Kit Kat Klocks, gum ball machines, Mexican Cokes in glass bottles, squirt guns, tote bags adorned with hula girls, Lodge cast iron frying pans, old American made tools, baskets for your bicycle, wood matches, reverse osmosis purified drinking water by the gallon and fancy Jadeite cake plates for fancy cakes on fancy occasions.

We sell everything but parakeets.

We were particularly proud of this refurbished, recently sold Schwinn. When it arrived at Coco’s, it was wheel-less and caked in mud. It is not a rare or particularly desirable model, but the patina was perfect, the colors superb and it looked just right with gum wall tires and the wicker basket on the back. With a bike like this, it is easy to imagine the transport of watercress sandwiches or a mobile venue for selling adorable kittens.

This bike has been sold. But, if you let us know what you are looking for, we will call you when we have a bicycle that fits the bill.
