Robot Hummingbird Nano Flying Vehicle

Fun & Games Robotics

AeroVironment, a DARPA contractor in California (Monrovia and Simi Valley), showed off this “nano hummingbird” at the AAAS National Meeting earlier in this month in DC. Both exciting and terrifying. I like the mention of a full-size aircraft possibly using this technology.

He said “larger UAV” not full size aircraft. I’m wondering exactly what technology would be applicable to a larger format? Stabilization? I’m not really seeing a ornithopter advantage for larger aircraft, although I’m sure there are lots of generally useful things discovered in the process of meeting this challenge.
