Though the fossil isnโ€™t real, Andrew Kleinโ€™s table is still an exceptional piece of work.

Fossils and tables generally arenโ€™t combined to make furniture, but one exceptional craftsman put the two together for a truly stunning piece. Andrew Klein began his build by bending the lamination to form the three curved legs of the table, which he strengthened and stabilized using a โ€˜floatingโ€™ box to join them together.

He then formed the tabletopโ€”which features a fossilized inlay he created using a traced imageโ€”and carved each piece of the fossil out of ebony. To give it that โ€˜excavatedโ€™ look, Andrew painstakingly carved numerous recesses around the fossil, which he then covered with pour-on high gloss finish to protect the piece.

To give it that โ€˜excavatedโ€™ look Andrew hand carved grooves around the fossil, giving it a more realistic look.

Once the tabletop cured, Andrew glued an edge-band around it, giving it a nice offset look that matches the legs. After giving everything a final sanding and polishing, he then fastened it all together, creating a truly exceptional table made entirely out of wood.
