Gene Bauer’s Botanical Serigraphs

Here’s a wonderful glimpse of spring: the LA Times blog has posted about Gene Bauer, an LA-based artist who created a series of handmade booklets (really a zine more than anything) back in the early 1970s to send out to members of the California Garden Clubs. The booklets were recently rediscovered and published (you can get it here on Amazon). There’s also a longer article about her life, including the fact that she has roughly a million daffodil bulbs on her property in the southern California hills! She’s getting older now, but for years, she would open the big yellow splash up to the public each spring. It’s a wonderful story about the impact one person can have and how much inspiration is out there in the natural world for us all.
