I love the look of hand-painted signs and labels, but have always assumed that I didn’t have the steady hand required for such delicate and precise brush strokes. But Jaime from That’s My Letter completely dissuaded my fear with her handy tutorial for neatly painting letters on wood surfaces. Her simple method will have you painting text like a pro in no time!

Here’s how:

1. Print out letters (font shown here is American Typewriter) and line up on piece.
Using a ballpoint pen trace outline of letters:

The pressure of the pen creates a slight indent in the wood.

2. Paint inside the indent.
