Mini Maker Faire on Wheels – say hello to Make Mobile!

Deploysketch
As you may remember, last April we got our hands on a cheerful, versatile Mercedes 508D Feuerwehrfahrzeug. Since then the Make gang have been hard at work starting the mods that will convert this vintage fire truck into a four-wheeled making-crafting powerhouse, our very own Make Mobile, in an effort largely spearheaded by multi-talented Maker Scott Gasparian. You may have seen it at Maker Faire, and this summer this spunky vehicle will be hitting the road, taking Making to the masses.

Our first stop is RoboGames (http://www.robogames.net) at Fort Mason this coming weekend June 13-15, 2008, including Friday’s free student groups day. The Make Mobile will be there all weekend, chock full of Maker Shed & Ed–that is, goodies for sale and info about this year’s educational outreach efforts. Stop by to stock up on some of your favorite Maker kits, to snag a last-minute gift for dad, or to join our growing community of educators.

Generously sponsored by our friends at IBM, the Make Mobile’s next stops this summer are IBM’s educational programs in and around San Jose. These include two camps (EXITE for girls and IGNITE for boys), the ever-popular Take Your Children to Work Day, and the Latino College Prep Academy. We’re hoping to visit a handful of other programs this summer and fall, so be in touch if you’d like to be considered for the Make Mobile’s itinerary.

If you want to get a sense of the status of the Make Mobile, Scott Gasparian has been posting his updates on the truck’s conversion to an educational outreach, making-crafting powerhouse at http://www.1sky.com/make
