Beth Fuller a grad student at Pratt Institute and designer of the Beetle Bag which we posted here on CRAFT, has a new eco-friendly design with her Zipper Wine Bag Collection.
Beth writes:
The Zipper Wine Bag Collection embodies an elegant mix of style, function, and eco-friendly design. Each bag is made with organic cotton and dyed with organic wine. The bags embrace the trend of reusable packaging solutions: they can be used to sell wine in retail settings and can be reused by the consumer. Its paradoxical nature – a wine bag dyed with wine – is didactic, teaching consumers that there are eco-friendly alternatives to conventional soft good manufacturing. The bags yield very little fabric waste, since each bag is made from a 14-by-14 inch square piece of cotton.
The overall form of the bag is reminiscent of a corset that mimics the sensual, feminine shape of a wine bottle. One of the bag’s most celebrated elements is its handle – a continuation of the zipper that runs the length of the bag. The handle must be unzipped in order for the rest of the bag to be unzipped. Thus, the bottle is metaphorically disrobed. Each bag features intricate pleats surrounding the neck ofthe bottle as well as a ruffled finish at the top.
