Exciting Weekend Planned for Hannover’s 2nd Maker Faire!

Last year the first Maker Faire in Germany took place in Hannover. This weekend the event returns with Maker Faire Hannover on July 5-6 2014!

Michaela Jäger, one of the events organizers, says they will have about 100 exhibitors covering topics of robotics, Arduino, 3D printing, crafting, science, handicraft, quadcopters, and more. More than forty presentations and speeches are scheduled, in three tracks throughout the weekend. Plus lots of workshops on soldering, metal working, tinkering, design thinking an rapid prototyping, hacking a Kinect, programming of PICAXE microprocessors and FPGAs, and making crazy contraptions from cardboard, wood, and sponge rubber.

Dale Dougherty, founder, President & CEO of Maker Media will be in attendance. Dale will make a speech and undoubtedly meet many makers to learn about them and their cool projects.

The Windreiter group will be back with its project Silent Runner – an airship consisting of 3D printed parts, a helium balloon, electronics and an Arduino. The group feels airships were the most fascinating aircraft ever to cross the skies, so they decided to make one for themselves. They will be demonstrating Silent Runner, a fast and agile racing airship that is really fun to fly. The Silent Runner is easy to build and to steer. It floats completely silently through the air and is a really beautiful sight to see.

Artist Kerstin Schulz presents her fascinating Schwarmkunst (Swarm Art) creations out of pencils. Kerstin forms everyday articles like chairs desks and phones out of the simple pencils. She also built a complete pencil room, which will be exhibited at the fair.

In addition to the pencil room, visitors can participate in the pencil swarm art by transferring their selfies to a monitor and becoming part of this special art installation.

Simon Collins (aka Paka) is an interdisciplinary artist who works with large-scale mechanical sculpture. Paka combines many skills to create interesting characters, and often involves the audience in his work.
Rusty the Horse is a remote control kinetic sculpture with a personality all his own. Audience members feel as though they have met a real horse as they see Rusty move, whinny, rear, defecate and even breathe fire. Paka will be riding around on Rusty at the fair.

Elsie the dragon is an interactive animatronic sculpture. She is 7.5 meters long with a 6 meter wing span. Elsie can flap and fold her wings and snap her mouth, bend her neck and flick her tail about. She is controlled by an operator or by the public via sets of switches around a safety barrier. The crowd can collaborate to create coordinated movements. Elsie’s propane gas system allows her to spit fire; she can also breathe smoke.
