FreeCycle is a hub of email lists from different cities where you can post WANTED, OFFERED, or TAKEN messages to get, give and look for free stuff. There are over 1 million members out there in over 2,500 communities. You have to go and pick up the stuff in person, but that’s not a bad deal at all. There has been some talk of a Maker-like list where you could offer up usage of tools and equipment, but I think the FreeCycle list(s) might work. You could post OFFERED: Use of DNA sequencer, etc…

You are obviously one of the freecycle bloggers, packing around the logo in your pocket…. Freecycling was a great idea, and the original concept still works, of course the company is now a corporation and the making of money and trademarking has ruined the “freecycle” movement but there are many other groups which maintain the original concept without joining the corporation.
http://www.freeshare.savethisplanet.com (you will find groups listed by state and country, same concept, different names such as curbcycle, sharingisgiving and freeshare)

i am looking for a childrens bedroom set, also a dining room set.
I like some of the suggestions of the last Comment – but some of the information is not correct. The Freecycle Network is a not-for-profit organization, and I suspect that it’ll always be so (If the founder guy – Deron Beal’s reputation is accurate).
I’m not sure who would critisize anyone for proecting their name?!. That sounds a little odd – but the trademark thing is probably to protect the integrity of what people have come to expect from Freecycle and Freecycle groups. You can hardly fault a carpenter for protecting his good name in the face of chinese copycats masquarading their work has his (this metaphor may be slightly unfair – but you get the idea). I just think carftsman should be able to protect their good name – in Freecycle’s case, It seems pretty decent.
Any large movement isn’t without its detractors, but thinking people usually make up their own mind. For me – Freecycling has been a great experience with a few bumps, plenty of goodwill and reciprocity along the way.
You go Freecycle… One sofa bed at a time!! LOL

For all of you who like the idea of freecycling take a look at this new site which makes it all a good deal easier! Its called GreenGonzo – Freecycle Search at http://www.greengonzo.com and it provides a searchable database of things people are giving away in the UK.
“The Freecycle Rag” http://www.pizzabob.com/freesharing2.html
“The Freecycle Rag” a great song which explains what Freecycling is all about. This is poor mans copy and is free to distribute but not change. It is a registered and copyrighted song by BMI. Singer
Songwriter Bob Neace, aka ‘Pizza Bob’, who is a local singer in Brevard County, Florida and an aspiring Country Western performer, wrote and also performs the song.

I just wanted to let everyone know about a new free recycling site that I recently started.
My motivation for creating the site was to fix problems that I saw with most the the free recycling groups out there. Mainly, that most free recycling groups rely on mailing list type systems. This often involved flooding your mailbox with offers. I created a site where you can go to post your offers and wants, and the entire claims process is handled on the site. This way you only get email notifications when events happen regarding a post or claim that you have made.
I also have plans in the near future for implementing other helpful features. Things such as RSS feeds so you can get the offer list while not actually on the site. I am also in the process of working with RapLeaf, who is an internet transaction reputation company. This will provide a feedback system/score that is similar to eBay, thereby helping you know which claimers are reputable, etc.
The site is still in its very early stages, so there may be a few problems here and there. The more people I have and more comments I get, the more streamlined the process can become. It is set up now to work locally within your county when you log in. However, you can change your set location to view and post offers.
Take a look, and let me know what you think. All feedback is appreciated.
