With all of the bigger picture focus and flurry of activity around getting a Maker Faire together, it might be easy to forget that there are hundreds of smaller, but no less passionate organizational dramas going on, of countless late-night planning sessions, fundraising efforts, project builds, frantic last-minute organizing, packing, and travel, and everything else that goes into the participation of hundreds of individual Makers, Makerspaces, and companies that participate in a Maker Faire.
We got a message this morning from one such group, FUBAR Labs in New Jersey, that reminded us of all that. This New Brunswick Makerspace is in the middle of an Indiegogo campaign and in moving to their new space, but it was still important to them to participate in this weekend’s upcoming Maker Faire Bay Area. And for FUBAR 1, their Power Racing Series car, the race to the finish line in San Mateo is a bit longer than everybody else’s. They write in a recent campaign update:
The real race started on Sunday and it is 2,985 miles long! On Sunday, Rick and Bill loaded FUBAR 1 into his van and Rick is on the road right now transporting the car from New Jersey to San Francisco! Talk about dedication! WHOA!! If you see a minivan with a green power racer in the back, give a honk to Rick and FUBAR 1! Go Rick! Go!
The FUBAR Labs team sent the Maker Faire team a note to remind them that, in this 11th hour of prep, what they do “makes a big difference.” We’d like to take this opportunity to return the compliment, to Fubar and to all of the Makers, Makerspaces, and companies that participate in Maker Faire. There is no Faire without all of you.
