If you ask me, handmade gifts are the best. But I’m guessing I won’t need to convince anyone reading this of that! Here are some of my favorite handmade gifts for under $50 – something for everyone’s budget.
Fortune Cookie Coin Purse by Diana Eng, $45
This is so sweet in a variety of ways! Diana has created these coin purses from recycled leather. They come with a with a fortune inside, printed on a piece of ribbon, a special dust bag to keep it safe, and has a unique number for you to track where the leather came from. It’s a great combination of handmade AND reclaimed materials.
Large Birch Bark Vase by Bettula, $38
Bettula is Heather Fagan and birch bark is her medium. Best known for her unique birch bark jewelry, Heather creates a line of home accessories, too. These vases are the perfect addition to a holiday centerpiece and will work all year long, too.
Blue Quilted Tote Bag by Hip to Piece Squares, $30
Have a friend who loves to read? Get her this quilted tote to use as a cute library bag. Modern-day quilter Sarah Minshall’s tote is sturdy for all her holiday break books.
Stained Glass Christmas Tree Ornaments by Glass Action!, $10
Carey Gustafson gives the skilled art of stained glass a new twist with her pop-culture eye. These Christmas tree ornaments are a little Charlie Brown-inspired with a lot of kitsch.
“It’s Not That Far… Really” D.I.Y. Postcard Set by Rar Rar Press, $30
Want to remind a friend that you guys are always close at heart? Try your hand at Rebecca Rakstad’s postcard kit. Simply stamp some hearts over your states and drop in the mail. You get 10 postcards and 1 cute hand-carved stamp in this kit.
State of Affair Custom Pillow by Difraction Fiber, $30
If your family member has state pride, show if off… on the couch! I’d definitely get a Michigan pillow from Beth Cummings for my family members!
Grenade Soap by Stinkybomb Soap, $12
I sometimes have a hard time finding the perfect “dude” gift. No problem here – I know a few gentlemen who would enjoy some of Megan Green’s explosive soap. If grenades aren’t his thing, try a cassette tape instead for $10.
Mustache Tree Ornament by my marigold, $6.50
So macaroons might be the new cupcake, but I’m pretty sure mustaches are still holding their own. This fabric ornament is perfect for both gals and guys. Couldn’t you just picture a whole tree of these? It make my nose all twitchy just thinking about it…
