No matter your level of expertise or area of interest, there are loads of fun opportunities for crafters to participate in Maker Faire. Here’s a rundown of how you can get involved:
Selling something fabulous? Get your application in for Bazaar Bizarre right away. Bazaar Bizarre is a huge juried craft fair that will run during Maker Faire. This is the first year Bazaar Bizarre will be in Austin, and the application deadline has been extended through tomorrow. Multiple crafters are allowed to share one vendor space, as long as their information is detailed in the application. Bazaar Bizarre Austin will be a great chance for Central Texas crafters to showcase their goods to a massive audience, so jump in and apply today.
Want to share your skills with Maker Faire visitors? Apply to be a Maker. Makers are given a space where they can demonstrate their craft and interact with visitors to share their knowledge. If you are part of a group of Makers who would like to exhibit together, you can even request that your group be located next to one another. A Maker’s primary focus is not selling their wares, but rather, sharing their techniques. Application deadline is Thursday, September 4th, but participants are encouraged to submit their proposals as soon as possible.
Take your demonstration to the next level at the CRAFT demo stage. If you have a quick project you’d like to demonstrate for visitors, apply for a spot at the CRAFT demo stage. You’ll have the opportunity to give a step-by-step walk through of your project at a scheduled time during the weekend. Makers can participate in both their booths and the CRAFT demo stage, but it is not required.
Make your mark on fashion at Swap-O-Rama-Rama! Swap-O-Rama-Rama has become famous for it’s unique, massive clothing swap and clothing reconstruction format. Participants bring unwanted clothing and a small donation and then dig in, select and reconstruct clothing from the donated items. Crafters can participate as DIY fashionistas, or can volunteer to help at sewing stations, silk screen stations or with the fashion show.
