MAKE’s Editor in Chief Mark Frauenfelder along with Brian Heater announced the winners of Insert Coin: Readers’ Choice went to Grow Cubes and the Judges’ Choice went to DIWire.
You may recall Grow Cubes as past finalists in Pitch Your Prototype, a contest held during Make’s Hardware Innovation Workshop. The cubes are a BeagleBone based aeroponics growing system designed for producing clean and affordable food. Today the team is leaving with a $15,000 prize.
DIWire and MAKE go way back. Their parent company PENSA LABS taught us all how to make the DIWire Bender and we featured them in our Bay Area Maker Faire, 2013. We also saw DIWire at Maker Faire New York, 2013 and applaud them on winning $10,000.
Congratulations to both teams! We are happy to see two start-ups with origins in the Maker Community gain recognition from the consumer electronics world.
