Civic Response

Join us next week on Tuesday, April 21 7PM ET / 4PM PT, for a panel discussion about the civic response to Covid-19. Dale has called it Plan C, a bottoms-up civic response of self-organizing groups that is taking advantage of the tools and networks that have developed around makerspaces in the US and the world. He will be joined by Dorothy Jones-Davis of Nation of Makers, who will talk about sustainable pathways that allow makers to continue producing supplies and meeting the ongoing needs of these organizations.

Reserve your spot right now to ensure you get to participate.

In our next panel, hosted by Dorothy and Dale, we will have the following guests:

  • Jay Margulas, Makerspace Director, DePaul University
  • Sasha Neri, Harold Washington Public Library
  • Andrew Morrison, Workshop88
  • Ray Doeksen, Pumping Station One and Nation of Makers
  • Dan Meyer, Museum of Science and Industry
  • Jackie Moore, South Side Community Mobilizer
  • Eric Landahl, DePaul University
  • Jeff Solin, Lane Tech High School
  • Pam Daniels, Northwestern University

The topic:

In Chicago, a group of makers who know each other through the network of makerspace created a “mesh network” to organize the production and distribution of face shields, starting in Chicago and extending to the suburbs. This informal network is called Illinois PPE Network.  Within several weeks, they have produced 6500 face shields and began serving 50 medical facilities throughout the state. Join us to talk with members of the Illinois PPE.
