Make: is proud to announce our new partnership with Hackster.io, whose platform will provide Makers the opportunity to share their projects and stories with the rest of the Maker community. Not only that, it gives us the ability to offer you really fun challenges to put your design and making skills to the test.
We’re excited to kick this relationship off right, with help from our friends at GE, who’ve partnered with Make: to bring you the Lights for Life challenge, giving YOU the opportunity to design the future of connected lighting — and to see your winning design manufactured and brought to market!
Think about it … with around 45 light sockets in the average house, each with an unobstructed vantage points and a power source, lighting is uniquely positioned to be the “glue” of the connected, intelligent home. Makes sense, right? If you’ve got a vision of how the Bluetooth®-enabled, connected home of tomorrow can be designed to improve our daily lives, bring it on!
What could you design to let you know when your kids arrive home from school? Or to closely monitor an elderly parent? Or find your dog when it’s time to go for a walk? How would you integrate voice command, motion sensors or temperature sensors? Fun, right?
Check out our Lights for Life challenge page for all the details (including the $25,000 grand prize!). Oh, and you can sign up online or at GE’s Maker Faire Bay Area booth this weekend (look for ‘em at the Maker to Market pavilion). Either way, designs are due July 20, so get hoppin’.
We can’t wait to see what brilliance you’ve got in mind!
