And now for something completely different: The first rooftop winery in New York. Probably the first one on the USA. Devin Shoemaker grew up with a passion for making wine — and for cities. But in New York (actually, everywhere) wine gets grown in rural areas. You can see where this is going. Devin is a maker at heart; rural wine wouldn’t do. It wasn’t close enough to its customers, city friends couldn’t participate or learn about the process, and he didn’t want to live upstate. So Rooftop Red was born. That meant inventing new large scale urban planters for vines, working with hearty (and cold-friendly) New York vines, and getting all parts of the wine making process onto a giant roof at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in NYC.
Join us on the roof in this clip, then learn more at MakerCon in New York on September 24th where Devin will have his wines on-hand.
