What are you most looking forward to at Maker Faire Detroit?
I’m looking forward to being blown away by the creative minds of our region at the Detroit Maker Faire, and planning to leave with inspiration to learn new skills I never even knew existed!
What is your favorite thing about Detroit?
Amidst (or because of) hard times, Detroit and Southeast Michigan have some of the most creative and innovative people and projects anywhere, who are showing how transformation of our lives and economies can begin with a single act such as an urban garden or an art collective…. This exemplifies that powerful change is possible with the will of a citzenry taking ownership over our future.
Who are you?!
My name is Kinga (Osz-Kemp), my screenprinting business name is Inkinbloom. I print and design with my husband Andrew. Our website is www.inkinbloom.com.
What kind of crafts do you make?
We print our designs on t-shirts, skirts, pants, and recently I started prnting on curtains and pillow cases as well. I have also printed the first three of the Urban Tenacity card series. It is a collection (12?) of herbs and beneficial plants that grow freely around Detroit since all of the empty space allows them. Most of these plants are not only beneficial for the soil but have detoxifying or other healing effects on humans as well. (e.g. chicory, burdock, dandelion, etc). I use one of these, comfrey, to make salve and lip balm out of my beeswax. Since I am a beekeeper as well, bees find their way into my prints too.
What are you most looking forward to for Maker Faire Detroit?
I am looking forward to the creative energy of the fair, the fun of seeing so many people interested in crazy ideas or the creative process.
What is your favorite thing about Detroit?
The open space of Detroit is one of my favorite things about it. The space that allows native species to thrive in an otherwise tamed environment is the same space that is the link between decay and birth, and the same space that attracts creative people.
