September 13, 2014 marks the first year of the Mokena Mini Maker Faire, Held in conjunction with the eleventh annual Mokena Chamber of Commerce Food & Wine Fest. Organized by SpaceLab and the Mokena Mayor’s Technology Committee, the Mokena Mini Maker Faire aims to establish Mokena as a learning community and technology haven in the south suburbs of Chicago.
Hosted at the historic Yunker Farm, located near downtown Mokena, Mokena Mini Maker Faire aims to attract over 20 exhibitors and 500 attendees in its first year. Speakers will include State Senator Michael Hastings, technology advocate and legislator from the 19th District.
Exhibits already include a trebuchet, near space weather balloon, virtual reality sandbox, and the local makerspace Workshop 88 (as well as, of course, SpaceLab).
