Quadcopter + Custom Ring + Fireworks = The Geekiest Proposal Ever

Geeks sometimes fall for someone, and if things go well, we’re able to convince the other person to feel the same way. According to Sefi, he “used to build things all the time to impress her [Tania], until it worked.” After it worked, there was one more giant hack left to hopefully seal the deal, a proposal involving 3D printing, an LED strip for light painting, and, of course, a quadcopter.

The ring, which says “I will betroth you to me forever,” was modeled on a 3D CAD program, then 3D printed in wax. This was then used to make a mold, then the ring was cast in white gold.

The proposal itself was nicely filmed, and a team involving 21 people was coordinated to make everything work out perfectly. A quadcopter was flown in the background which spelled out “Will you marry me?” using a LED strip and long-exposure photography. Fireworks were also used in the general area, which probably made more sense for anyone that wasn’t looking at the resulting photos!

You can see the whole thing in the video above. Although not explicitly stated in the video, I’m going to assume that Tania said “yes.” Let’s wish them a great marriage!
