CRAFT reader Rachel Donegan tells us about her beautiful bug themed garden DIY wedding:

My husband and I were married at a historic site with beautiful gardens in Newbury, NH and we had our hands (literally) in pretty much every part of the wedding. I picked out the flowers at the farmer’s market day of and we made the bouttoniers from woodland plants that morning. The centerpieces were mini woodland landscapes from plants in the woods at my mother’s house. My mom made my dress from a hemp/silk fabric.
What we couldn’t make ourselves (like candles), we bought local. Every decision was made with sustainability and ecological responsibility in mind. The whole event cost about $12,000, which I think is about half the average cost of a wedding. And I’d like to think it was a lot more personal than the average wedding.
Each table was labeled with a friendly garden insect and to find their seats, guests picked up a slip of paper with their name and a stamped image of their table’s insect. Each slip was inside a tiny vellum envelope which were all attached to a fabric covered board.
