Celebrities in general have always taken up some humanitarian causes, whether it’s taking care of hurricane victims or visiting young fans at children’s hospitals and robots are no different. Take RX Robots MEDi (Medicine and Engineering Designing Intelligence) robot for example, you’ve seen it before but probably couldn’t remember its name.
Regardless, this little bot currently works at the Alberta Children’s Hospital (Canada) as a ‘pain coach’ in an effort to relieve the stress children feel when going to the hospital.
The robot itself was actually designed by the French company Aldebaran Robotics under the name of Nao, however Rx Robotics took the robot and loaded it with cognitive-behavioral software in an effort to interact with children. It also has the ability to play music, games and even have conversations with patients in order for them to feel relaxed.
Some readers may recognize MEDi as the robot competitors for the RoboCup Standard Platform League, an international soccer tournament, however it seems to have found its calling as a robo-friend for children.
With the robot being used as a research platform, soccer star and therapeutic assistant, it’s no wonder this little bot has achieved celebrity status.
