Chuck writes in with another exciting week of tools! – Chuck will also be at Maker Faire, hope to see you there too!
Apparently Toolmongers love LED flashlights – cheap ones! Our readers selected a $4 flashlight with 28 LEDs as their number one pick this week, followed by a $60 reciprocating saw and a $4 nail apron. If you don’t have a reciprocating saw yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. They’re useful for all kinds of tasks around the home and shop from pruning trees to cutting steel square tube. And if you’re planning to do any roofing work, you’ll definitely want a nail apron; the more you walk around, the more likely you are to fall off. Keeping your fasteners with you keeps you safe. We also looked at a sweet prototyping material sold under the brand ShapeLock, but known to Makers as Polycaprolactone. It becomes malleable at around 160 degrees F, then returns to a hard, nylon-like state at room temperature – perfect for quickly mocking-up a shape or making bucks for molding. Rounding out the top five this week is a new marker from Stanley that promises to mark on wet and oily surfaces. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at Maker Faire – two weeks and counting!
