The week in tools

This week in tools from Chuck!

This week we tested one of the first available 10.8V Impact drivers from Bosch. We pitted this tiny, 800 in-lb capable monster against a much larger 14.4V driver with spectacular results. We also checked out a sub-$300 26-gallon air compressor that ships with six air tools – a great start for the home or small shop – and a small, self-contained, 110V-powered plasma cutter that’d serve as an awesome companion to your 110V wire welder. Other hits this week: an inexpensive set of compass heads that turn whatever junk stock you’ve got into a compass – Need a 16′ circle? Grab a 2×4! – and a plastic clip that holds eight power or data wires in place with a single fastener. If you’re into smithing or knife making, you’ll want to check out our Tool Talk podcast this Monday where we talk to master bladesmith Ed Fowler about getting started in his art.
