Make: television debuted 1/3/2009 7am PST online and on public television (broadcast / cable tv). The series encourages everyone to invent, revent, recycle, upcycle, and act up. Based on the popular Make magazine, each half-hour episode hopes to inspire viewers to think, create, and, well, make. Each episode can be viewed or downloaded DRM-free, in HD on makezine.tv – the show is also available on Vimeo, YouTube, blip.tv, iTunes and BitTorrent.
We’re pretty sure this might be the first TV show to launch in all these places, hopefully others will too!
For the new folks just joining us here, MAKE is a magazine, it’s also a yearly event called “Maker Faire“, a very popular website, a book series, a Maker Shed – but most of all it’s a community of Makers who share their projects and skill. Make is what -you- make it. It’s a growing DIY movement of people who look at things a little different and who just might spark the next generation of scientists, engineers and makers. Over the weekend our friends (and new friends) had some great things to say about the show, here’s all the ones we could find, thanks for the support!

Obessable – Make: television mini-review. If you like DIY, tinkering, ripping apart things, and building new things, then a new public television show available online may be right up your alley.
MinOnline – Make TV Goes Offline…and Back Online. After years of experience making some of the best online video podcasts available, O’Reilly Media’s Make Magazine brand extends to TV in a regular series in partnership with Twin Cities Public Television. The most compelling aspect of Make TV is its distinct cultural posture and voice. More than a simple extension of a magazine logo and staff, the show embodies a philosophy of highly innovative DIY, a kind of counterpoint to consumerism itself. There is a sensibility here that is entirely consistent across TV, print, online video, and even the PDF files for the projects available for personal printing. In an age when cross-platform distribution is imperative, when magazines must become more than magazines, Make Magazine’s brand exemplifies what is needed in the new media landscape, a brand that is as much a movement and a cause as it is just another content offering that is defined simply by an audience demo or psychographic.

Then I woke up and realized no one was stopping me from building these projects myself.”
Geek Squad attempts to ‘Make:’ impression… …Robert Stephens, founder and chief inspector of Geek Squad, came up with the TV sponsorship concept two years ago with the interest in creating programming around technology and science in a contemporary fashion…. “When you make science and technology interesting, you spark innovation,” said Stephens. “Geek Squad’s support of ‘Make:’ is our way of encouraging people to play, discover and create.”
