There’s a common belief, at least in the U.S., that if you were to dig a hole deep enough (assuming the technology existed), eventually you’d pop out on the other side of the earth, and this would be somewhere in China. This belief might be true…
…if you were to start your hole in Argentina.

According to the map, digging just north of Chester, Montana would pop you out at the northern tip of the French and Southern Antarctic Lands.
Ze Frank? Pfft. Late to the game with this joke. Walt Kelly did a series of Pogo strips about this back in the late 50’s – early 60’s. One character is going to dig through to China and another figures out the exit point will be in the middle of the Indian Ocean and the water will come through and flood everything.
