Rick writes – “Patchwork Central in Evansville, Indiana, runs after-school art programs for inner-city kids. Over the three years that I ran the Bike Club there, the kids (10 years old & up) & I created a number of amazing and unusual custom bikes. Whatever the kids dreamed up, we built… staying within the laws of physics, of course. We’d begin our custom bike weeks by drawing out any and all ideas for a bike, including flying bikes and so forth. After looking at all our drawings, we’d refine our ideas based on what was possible given our stock pile of bike parts and the amount of time we had. Then we’d get cutting & welding, and after a week, we’d have another cool custom bike. We kept these vehicles in our “stable” so that all the kids in the club had the opportunity to ride the custom bike of their choice on our weekly bike rides. Man, those rides were awesome; each one was like a parade!”Link.
