Prebacked Health Hackathon to Front More Than 0k in Prizes, Oct 19-21

Calling all maker-entrepreneurs in the healthcare space. Here’s an opportunity to get your startup funded on the fast track at Prebacked Health, a hackathon with serious funding on the line, October 19-21, 2012. Awards totaling more than $100k are up for grabs.

The typical route for early stage startups is to think of an idea, create a product or service, and pitch it to investors, hoping they bite. Prebacked wants to flip the traditional model of funding around: instead of startup teams pitching ideas to investors, why not have investors pitch problems they are willing to fund directly to startup teams?

“We want to create an igniter for startup teams to become real companies” says Garrett Dunham, Prebacked Founder.   “A back door, of sorts, to get great people exposed to real industry problems that investors would love to fund.”

Following MedHack, an open health and medicine hackathon held in August, comes Prebacked Health, a three-day deep dive into existing healthtech projects. Prebacked Health will take place from October 19-21, 2012 in Palo Alto, CA.  It has lined up an impressive group of healthcare experts and investors from United Health Group, Practice Fusion, Band of Angels, Strategy&, UCSF, and Comcast Ventures, and others.

Band of Angels will give away three prizes of $25,000 each, and Originate will back a $30,000 development prize. Teams with the most promising solutions could receive funding on the spot

Startup teams ready to disrupt healthcare should apply immediately at Prebacked.com.
