Jerri Elsworth posted this interesting vid of Chris J. explaining an impressively sensitive electrostatic energy detector he built using an LMC662 opamp chip. Notice the meter begins to spike the moment Chris brushes a piece of plastic against his hair – a considerable distance away from his device. Could definitely be a fun circuit to remake.

This is a much simpler circuit I have tried. It is also sensitve, but if you zap it you have not lost much. An LED is the output.

Yep, I made that simple one too and it works very well. I put it in a small box with a telescopic antenna on it and a metal plate at the base so you can ground it to reset it.
