Maker Faire North Carolina producer Jon Danforth is pretty thrilled with their front-page splash earlier this week on the Triangle’s largest newspaper, The Raleigh News & Observer. “What that means is that North Carolina has maybe finally realized at an institutional level that making is real and is happening in the mainstream.”
Danforth is also happy with the way Kevin Little, the maker in the photo, was featured. “It happened just the way I hoped: 80% about the maker and 20% about us.” As a pioneering Maker Faire organizer, Danforth clearly loves makers and is committed to delivering them an appreciative audience.
This Saturday’s June 15th event will be North Carolina’s fourth annual Maker Faire. Jon says they will be featuring 80+ maker exhibits, and will offer all day “hands-in” making from lockpicking to soldering to spinning yarn. Five meetups are also scheduled for the event.
“When you do something really fringe, really niche, it’s hard to find people in your community who get what you’re trying to do,” Danforth was quoted. “But mostly, I think that’s for a lack of venue. And so we provide that venue.”
