Flickr “Point to it” Hack…

Point_It.jpgThere’s a group called Flickr hacks which has some interesting things you can do with photos and more. I had posted an idea about using Flickr as a universal translator- you type in what you want to do, say, find, eat or whatever on your phone and you get a picture back that you can show someone you’re trying to communicate with. It’s based on a book called “Point to it“. Steeev from the group made a prototype which can found here. Neat!

From the shadows — Not TV. Dot TV

From the shadows — Not TV. Dot TV

bg3.jpgHere comes one of the first waves of DIY technology TV (like) shows. “From the shadows” -This first episode is about mobile gaming. The shadows crew test the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS wireless in all sorts of ways including jumping out of a plane and using the units while skydiving. Expect to see lots of DIY “shows” distributed via Bit torrent with content and production quality as good as regular ole’ TV. Horray for the longtail. I’m also looking forward to systm from Kevin Rose and gang.

DIY Podcast Shower Radio

DIY Podcast Shower Radio

spr_full_set.jpgI try to maximize my “hostage” time as much as possible- waiting in line means it’s checking email time and while taking showers or exercising, fill that time with audio. Here’s a fun way to listen to podcasts (audio programs) in the shower. Project at a glance: Creative Muvo MP3 player -> Stereo wire -> RF transmitter -> RF input of 87.7FM -> Sony shower radio. I’m not sure why we haven’t seen a waterproof wireless MP3 player/receiver for the shower to stream in your music yet.

Red LEDs to Grow Lettuce better

Red LEDs to Grow Lettuce better

0405pess01.jpgThis is pretty neat- using red LEDS to grow lettuce is 60% more efficient than fluorescent light when growing vegetables hydroponically. The red LED technology produces 7000 heads of lettuce per day all year round in a 10-floor building on just 1000 square meters of space. The lettuce matures more than three times as fast under the LEDs than outdoors. The Metaefficient site also has a lot of other interesting products that are just, better. Maybe when we’re all done with our POV projects we’ll grow plants.
