Today is Arduino Day — a worldwide celebration of the Arduino’s birthday. A lot has happened this year in and around the Arduino community, for instance I’ve always said that one day I’d wake up and the Arduino would be in a museum, and this was the year it happened.

While last year’s day long event saw community meetups, classes, and parties, as well as the official events held around the world by the Arduino team. This year, the birthday celebrations look to be bigger and better than ever, with official events in the Arduino offices in Torino, Malmo, Bangalore and Budapest, as well as an event hosted at the MIT Media Lab in Boston.

However if you can’t make it to one of the official events, there are plenty of others organised by the community  — from Manchester in England, to Novosibirsk in Russia, to Wellington in New Zealand, and all across the United States from Los Angeles to Orlando. All of these events are organised directly by the Arduino community, and offer a real opportunity for  people interested in Arduino to get together and share experiences, and just learn more about the platform.

While this year’s celebrations take place in the shadow of the Arduino Wars, it hopefully shouldn’t overshadow what should be an amazing day celebrating a platform that stands at the heart of the maker movement. Especially since Massimo has promised us that the team will “…unveil a lot of cool stuff.”

If you’re after some new Arduino toys on Arduino Day, our friends over at the Maker Shed are running a one day promotion, taking an extra 15% off already marked down Arduino products and add ons. The deal is good today only, and expires at 11:59 PT tonight. Use code ARDUINODAY2015 at the check out to claim the promotion.
