Many bikes have kickstands, some are simply placed on the ground. When a bike is in its normal storage place, however, a dedicated place to keep it (or them) can make that location much more pleasing. If you’d rather not simply buy one, these six DIY bike storage methods should give you some ideas for how to make your own.
Wooden Bike Rack
If you want to build your own wooden bike rack, this video is a great place to start. The author built it out of scrap wood, and the basic design could be modified to suit your tastes. As shown in the picture, this rack will accomodate several different styles of two-wheelers!
Flat ceiling storage
If you want to store your bike out of the way, one option would be to hang it from the ceiling. This works great if you have a ton of overhead space, but if you need something a little “slimmer,” this simple setup will allow you to fold your bike parallel to the ceiling, creating more space for your SUV, minivan, or gigantic robot!
Classy Apartment Storage
If you live in an apartment, chances are that you don’t have a garage or other secure space to store your bike in. Jessie decided that the bikes on her apartment’s floor were taking up too much space, so she decided to mount them on the wall on top of each other. In order to make them look like they belonged in a domestic environment, two bike hangers were painted and mounted to plaques. The results look great!

PVC Bike Rack
Besides wood, PVC pipe has to be one of the best materials for building “makey” things. It seems there would be an infinite number of ways to build a bike rack from PVC pipe, and this double bike rack is a good place to start. This particular design could be expanded for more bikes, as the ideal number of bikes to own is, of course, the number you have plus one.
Pallet Bike Rack
If you don’t want to put a lot of effort into your bike rack, but have access to two wood pallets, this rack might be for you. It is simply two pallets laid not-quite-perpendicular to each other. Given the amount of work that went into it, it appears quite functional!
Automatic Double Flat Ceiling Storage
If you would rather not winch your bicycle flat with the ceiling, here’s an idea for doing it automatically, albeit kind of slowly. Besides using wireless control, it also accommodates two bikes, which is a definite advantage over the system seen earlier in this article.
