Among other whimsical items, Xylocopa Design fabricates unique musical instruments, such as this 5 stringed boxy fiddle. These creations were born from Michele’s practice in musical instrument repair and grew into the design of completely new instruments that she demonstrated for delighted visitors at Maker Faire Bay Area 2011.
A group from the Technical University of Denmark cobbled together a portable EEG using an Emotiv EPOC neuroheadset, a wireless dongle, and a Nokia N900 smartphone. Using custom software, the unit will render a real-time OpenGL representation of live data from the headset.

At this weekend’s Maker Faire, one of the exciting announcements came from MakerBot Industries, with their release of a new Stepstruder MK7 extruder head and their demoing of the experimental use of the MK7 in a dual-head, two-color in a MakerBot. I asked Noah Levy, one of the developers at MakerBot whose working on the “dualstrusion” project, a few questions.
