Turn rotational momentum into AC electricity, then convert the AC charges into a steady stream of 5V DC to charge your phone or other mobile device while bicycling! We call this project the Pedal Power Phone Charger. It’s the latest addition to our series of Weekend Projects powered by RadioShack.

After weeks of planning the first week of Maker Camp is behind us. Did you have fun? We sure did and there are five more weeks to go so stay tune for a lot more making. One of the cool things about Maker Camp this year is our community page on Google+. We didn’t have that during last year’s camp. Following the community page offers a real window into the vitality of the maker movement. Each day on Maker Camp we present one easy-to-build project and it’s fun to see makers post their versions of the projects. But the community doesn’t stop there. The community page is buzzing with lots of other projects. I’ll be highlighting some of the builds that caught my eye at the end of each week. Take a look and if you’ve got a project of your own or one you say on the G+ community page, please post in the comments for all to see.

We’re in the midst of a very busy summer here at the Maker Shed — we’ve been traveling around the country for various Mini Maker Faires and are preparing for the next World Maker Faire in September. But fear not; we still have time to get in the coolest new products for Makers. Without further ado, here are the most recent additions to the Maker Shed – an FPGA Development Board, an LED Color Organ Kit, a Toolkit for on-the-go soldering, and two wearable E-Textile kits.
