Upon first glance, this may look like a movie set of a Wes Anderson film, or something from Tim Burtonโs fantastical mind, but I can assure you, itโs not.
French artist Marc Giai-Miniet creates miniature dioramas known as ‘Boxes‘, reminiscent to the paper theater from โpictorial broadsheetโ culture of the 19th Century during the Biedermeier period. Throughout the numerous levels of the miniature models you will find grim scenes, gloomy rooms, and dark, dusty corners. Initially Giai-Minietโs works featured small characters, but those are a distant memory. Now his works mostly feature libraries, fictional attics, sci-fi laboratories, storage rooms, and interrogation cells that tell stories of odd experiments and unknown events that have taken place. Even though each room is cluttered with tiny objects such as machinery, floor-to-ceiling amounts of books, and huge translucent shelves, they are still neatly organized and intricate in every detail.
