Christoph Schindler of Zurich’s Schindler Salmeró made this Fitz Roy climbing wall out a single sheet of plywood, CNCed with a mountain design.
“The Fitz Roy Climbing Wall is a DIY item that makes Patagonia’s famous peak accessible for kids.” says Schindler. “We used a 2500 x 1250 x 15 mm plywood-board and painted it. The hole pattern for the image and the holes for the climbing holds were drilled with an old CNC 3-axis-router. Although the pattern looks complex, there was no scripting involved and everything was prepared with standard software tools.”
I love how the CNCed holes also accommodate differing configurations of climbing hardware. [via core77]

A rope just hanging in there? Enough for a troubled child to kill himself :-/
Ropes don’t kill troubled kids. Troubled kids kill troubled kids.
You’re joking, right?
You both have it wrong. It’s music by Marilyn Manson or Rammstein that causes troubled kids in the first place. Or video games. Or devil worship. Or peer pressure. Or teen magazines. Whatever it may be, it’s never the parents fault.
jammit, “Whatever it may be, it’s never the parents fault” haha
do you ever play this game?: “unhmh…just given that photo i can guess what sort of comments there are. i guess at least …3 are related to the kid’s safety no-helmet status. ok… show me 3 safety comments!” [click] hm, hard to score, but i think i underestimated.

I love the creativity there! So many kids are stuck to their XBOX or PS3 they don’t have time to get creative or mobile. Climbing walls like this are an excellent way to let them go off on their own and have fun! I work with http://www.spectrumsports.com and we build rock climbing walls. This sort of ingenuity is awesome to see. Well done!
