Angela of Wired.com points us to this gorgeously designed picture book rendition of David Bowie’s Space Oddity song, created by illustrator Andrew Kolb.

The David Bowie song “Space Oddity” probably shouldn’t have been made into a children’s book: The haunting 1969 track about an astronaut who loses contact with Earth to float around the universe would probably give most kids nightmares.
That didn’t stop illustrator Andrew Kolb from turning the space-rock song into an illustrated book.

On his web site, Kolb describes the project as “For my own jollies” and explains why he created it.

Have you ever listened to a song and your mind’s eye is immediately filled with visuals?
David Bowie’s classic space epic is one such song for me. Every lyric paints such a vivid picture that I figured “Oh hey, I guess I’ll make that into a children’s book!” Yes, I talk like this.

I’m glad I’m not the only one! I can’t tell you how many of my favorite songs I’d love to see translated in this way to share with my kids.
You can download the book from Kolb’s web site. Cue up the song as you flip through for bonus enjoyment.
