Arist Lisa Reynolds constructed a fake store front (called “Your inner self”) along with “cloned” reflections of the store front in the Financial District of New York City, I watched hundreds of people walk by, glance briefly and no one noticed how truly odd it was upon further inspection here are a few photos and the NY Times has a pay only article, blah.. Link.

Update: Traci writes — “Thanks for the heads-up. I think the artist’s name is Beth Campbell though. And for all those NYers out there, according to the NYTimes “Potential
Store Fronts” will remain on view through June 24 at 125 Maiden Lane, Lower
Manhattan.”

Hey, a quick look for the address revealed a link to a more widely-available NYT article:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/15/arts/design/15stor.html

FYI, it’s at 125 Maiden Lane through June 24.

Oops. I do believe those extra parameters in the url were necessary. Maybe this will work for people:

Makes you wonder about how bad the real display windows in New York City are…

    Haha, that’s funny!

It looks less “truly odd” than yet another wannabe arty NY (or LA or London) storefront. I wouldn’t give it another look myself. If you really want to have arts stuff in make magazine, why not people who are talented enough to create realistic pictures rather than the above pointless whiffle?

  7. philliptorrone says:

@subtilior – pointless whiffle can be anything or everything – the art section here on MAKE has a little of everything. just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean the artist isn’t talented – i saw the work in person, i think it’s pretty good and if you live in nyc, it’s an interesting idea.
