This is geniously insane…. So this is great i.o.w…..
I was thinking about this in another perspective. Mounting a cheap webcam to a telescope or something (microscope maybe good too) and use it as a USB capturing device. Anybody has seen a HOWTO to do that?
I know I should hack it myself if I could, but if the wheel has been invented by someone else huh?
I think optics is one of the nicest technologies to tinker with, since it is all visual and the results can at best leave everyone at awe.

Nikon has a device to attach their Coolpix line (at least some models, don’t know which it works with) to their spotting scopes.
Devices to attach cameras to telescopes have existed for decades, so your idea isn’t new (the details may be).
I’ve myself during a university graduate project made a device to attach an electronic surveillance camera (with RGB output, though we only attached a screen and thermal printer rather than a computer as we didn’t have one) to a telescope (which was a spotting scope for another device).
Few hours on a lathe is all it takes (and I had very limited experiences with metalworking, an expert might do the same in minutes).
