How-To: Turkey Work Embroidery Stitch

turkey work stitch

In the several years that I have been doing embroidery, I have never come across this unusual embroidery stitch called Turkey Work (a.k.a Ghiordes knot). I suspect the name comes from how fluffy it all looks when it’s done– much like a turkey’s behind.

This is a very tedious stitching technique, but I think the results are fantastic, and would certainly add an extra special touch to your handmade toys.
